Welcome to my soccer blog!

Welcome to my soccer blog!
Welcome to my new soccer blog! My name is Denis Knezovic and I was born in the year 1986, in Mostar, (a city that is part of Bosnia and Herzegovina today.) in 1993, I moved to Germany with my immediate family. There, I discovered and fell in love with the sport of soccer and more specifically with Bayern Munich, the world-famous, local top team there. Toward the end of the year 2000, we had to move again, this time to the United States. It was a time when the “Beautiful Game” was still in the relatively early stages of development in this country and European, let alone German soccer were still...

Bundesliga round 8 review

Bundesliga round 8 review
After the international break, round 8 of the German Bundesliga began this past Friday night. It started with newly-promoted, traditional team VfB Stuttgart hosting the winless, crisis-ridden 1.FC Cologne. Yet, it was the visitors who were livelier and pushed forward early on. They created chance after chance, but the same problem, the inability to score that had haunted them all season continued to stand in their way. That paved the way for Stuttgart to come into the match. Particularly Josip Brekalo and Anastasios Donis gave the home side creativity and danger in front of goal. It was indeed the...

Croatia in World Cup qualifying trouble after stalemate with Finland

Croatia in World Cup qualifying trouble after stalemate with Finland
Croatia was dealt a significant blow to its World Cup 2018 qualification chances of Friday evening, as they hosted Finland in the city of Rijeka. The Vatreni controlled most of the match, without being particularly convincing offensively. Either the final pass, or the finish in front of goal were at times severely lacking. Especially in the first half, Croatia dominated most of the ball, had plenty of corner kicks that went nowhere, as well as many shots off target. Therefore, it was no surprise that there was no score at halftime. In the second half, the home team pushed forward with more speed and...

Coach Jupp Heynckes to come out of retirement to take over Bayern Munich for the season
Bayern Munich confirmed on Friday, what many rumors over the last few days hinted toward. The 72-year-old Jupp Heynckes will coach the crisis-ridden Bavarian giants until the end of the season. It will be his fourth time coaching the German record champions and the second time after 2009, that he will be dragged out of his retirement to do the job. He is the most successful coach that Bayern has ever had in its history full of trophies and glory. Jupp Heynckes was the architect behind the team’s 2013 treble success, which is the combination of winning the Bundesliga, the UEFA Champions League and the...

Germany qualifies for 2018 World Cup
Defending World Cup champions Germany have qualified for the global tournament of 2018 in Russia. They did so by winning all nine of their qualifying matches to date. On Thursday evening, they made their qualification official, by defeating Northern Ireland 3-1 in Belfast. The hosts of that match and surprise qualifiers for EURO 2016, are second in the group behind the Germans and had already secured that second place at a minimum beforehand. The world champions for their part needed at least a draw to ensure that they win the group and qualify for the big tournament next summer, with a game to spare....

Bundesliga round 7 review

Bundesliga round 7 review
Match day seven in the German Bundesliga began last Friday with the encounter between Schalke 04 and Bayer Leverkusen. It was not a special match, particularly when one considers what these two teams have done in the recent past and what they should have the ability to do now. The game ended 1-1, with Leon Goretzka and Leon Bailey scoring the goals for their respective teams. There were plenty of goals and drama in the Saturday afternoon games. Borussia Mönchengladbach defeated Hannover 96 2-1 in added time, while Eintracht Frankfurt did the same to VfB Stuttgart. Eintracht was even down to ten men in...
