Round 4 of the German Bundesliga began this past Friday, as VfB Stuttgart welcomed Fortuna Düsseldorf.
The first half was uneventful, while the second one provided end-to-end action. The hosts seemed to have more of the play but, the visitors nevertheless had the much better scoring chances. Ultimately, Stuttgart remains winless this season, but they can thank their keeper Ron-Robert Zieler for earning the 0-0 draw.
On Saturday afternoon, a disappointing Borussia Dortmund side was lucky to get a 1-1 draw away at TSG Hoffenheim, from a Christian Pulisic goal.
The result naturally did little to help either team, even preventing BVB from taking the lead on top of the Bundesliga table.
Hertha BSC Berlin then did what Dortmund had failed to do. They jumped on top of the league standings with an impressive 4-2 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach. Bosnian veteran striker Vedad Ibisevic provided two goals in the process.
Meanwhile, FC Augsburg’s erasing a two-goal deficit was in vain against Werder Bremen, as the team from the Hanseatic city scored a third goal for a 3-2 victory. Key culprit for Augsburg’s defeat was once again their new keeper Fabian Giefer, who seems to have made at least one major mistake in every game.
Elsewhere, SC Freiburg got its first victory of the Bundesliga season against the until-then unbeaten VfL Wolfsburg. The match ended 3-1. 1.FC Nuremberg also had its first win, in their game against Hanover 96 by a score of 2-0.
On Saturday evening, Bayern Munich easily defeated Schalke 04 by 2-0, to return to first place while, pushing their opponents into the last position.
On Sunday, Bayer Leverkusen got their first points of the season with a well-deserved 1-0 win over Mainz 05. Lastly, Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig drew 1-1 in the matchup between the other two German Europa League participants.
